Jones to the DL, Boscan called up

Just after last night’s loss — the fifth in a row, the Braves put Chipper Jones on the disabled list due to the contusion on his leg, a result of a hard ground ball during the first game of the series against the Tampa Bay Rays. And because of a groin strain suffered last night, David Ross will likely be unavailable for at least the next few games, prompting the Braves to call up J.C. Boscan from Gwinnett.

Boscan, a 33 year-old catcher, hasn’t exactly lit up pitching in the International League. He hit .192  with two home runs in 104 at-bats and had an OPS of .564. He’s only played in five games at the MLB-level. Boscan is being brought up primarily as a stop-gap until Ross feels healthy again. However, he’ll get the start today since Brian McCann is out of the lineup again (he’s still recovering from the flu).

The Braves will take on the Washington Nationals again today at 4:05pm (Fox SportsSouth) with Mike Minor (2-4, 6.96 ERA) going up against Stephen Strasburg (4-1, 2.21 ERA).
